Community Engagement with Pulau Tikus Market Users (2017)
Commisioned by Pusat Khidmat KADUN Pulau Tikus, Arts-ED was tasked to engage the Pulau Tikus Market users to prepare a comprehensive guideline for the redevelopment of the market and its adjacent areas.
The project’s goal was to engage the community in a placemaking process, using the cultural mapping approach, to rebuild the Pulau Tikus Market site into a modern and integrated communal facility, while preserving its cultural, physical and communal identity.
Placemaking is a community-based collaborative process that capitalises on the local community’s cultural assets, identities, inspiration and potential to (re)create quality public spaces that contribute to the community’s overall well-being and ongoing evolution.
